Georgia Peach Wake-Up Shakes

Yield: 3–4 servings

Down in rural Georgia, in just the right season, you can find roadside farm stands with the most luscious peaches on earth. One time we cut some up and popped them in the blender to make a shake. Having won immediate approval from the family, this smooth nutritious drink is now a breakfast mainstay in our home during the summertime.

2 cups almond milk, soy milk, or rice milk

5 large peaches, peeled, pitted, and sliced (about 4 cups)

1 tablespoon honey

1½ cups ice cubes

Combine the milk, peaches, honey, and ice in a blender. Blend on high speed until smooth and frothy, 1–2 minutes. Pour into glasses and serve with straws.


For variety, try an equal measure of prepared (peeled and/or pitted) mangoes, papayas, fresh figs, or bananas in place of the peaches.

For Georgia Peach “Ice Cream” Pops: Pour the shake liquid into twelve ½-cup ice cream pop molds and place the molds in the freezer to set for about 2 hours. Remove the pop molds from the freezer and insert wooden sticks three quarters of the way into the molds, then place them back into the freezer until the entire pop is fully set (at least 2–3 hours).
